Module 8: Professional Development
Overview
Deciding to become a nurse educator is an important first step to developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) needed to pursue this career path. Completing course work and/or a graduate teaching certificate is a good start. As we’ve discussed, nurse educators are present across settings and serve in many roles. They work with students, patients, families, communities, professional peers and colleagues, consumers, military personnel, even policy makers and product developers. The possibilities for nurse educators are endless. Maintaining one’s competency, growing and developing in the role, developing others, serving organizations, and disseminating evidence are also part of a nurse educator’s role and responsibilities. This module will provide ideas and resources for doing so.
