NRSG 780 - Health Promotion and Population Health
Module 2: Determinants of Health
Overview
The purpose of this module is to examine the determinants of health using epidemiological, social and environmental data. The data are used to assess trends and establish priorities for the purpose of improving the health status of populations.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Identify the determinants of health
- Discuss the overall health status of the U.S.
- Interpret national health survey data: NHANES, BRFSS
- Assess modifiable lifestyle risk factors for heart disease, cancer and stroke focusing on smoking, high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol, diet, overweight, obesity and physical inactivity

*The first two readings are seminal articles in public health and should be familiar to all in the field. You can skim them to become familiar with the foundational content.
