NURS 787 - Theoretical Foundations of Teaching and Learning
Module 7: Roles and Environments
Overview
Teaching and learning can take place at any time and in any setting. The inputs of the learning process include a teacher, a learner, content in the form of information, ideas, skills, problems or challenges, time, environmental cues, learner characteristics, culture, attitudes, motivation, and support. Throughputs include the hard, messy work of learning, which can include practice, mistakes, thought, effort, resources, and multiple emotions. The outputs of this ongoing process are change, growth, development, and perspective.
Learning is a lifelong process. Curiosity, learning for the sake of learning, and the need to solve problems fuel this continuous loop.
In this module, we’ll take a closer look at some of these elements, and focus on some teaching competencies and roles, various learning environments, and the notion of health literacy.
