NURS 787 - Theoretical Foundations of Teaching and Learning Course
Module 5: Objectives, Leveling, and Alignment
Overview
In this module we will learn to formulate accurate and measurable behavioral objectives. We will first investigate the purpose and use of objectives in learning. Then we will use Bloom’s Taxonomy and examine cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of objectives. The impact of behavioral objectives on learning will be studied.
Plan backwards as well as forward. Set objectives and trace back to see how to achieve them. You may find that no path can get you there. Plan forward to see where your steps will take you, which may not be clear or intuitive.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and use of behavioral objectives in learning.
- Describe Bloom’s domains of objectives.
- Formulate behavioral objectives that are reflective of the goal and the learner.
- Identify strategies for leveling objectives and content.
- Recognize benefits and challenges of alignment within an education offering.
