Definitions
Coinsurance – The percentage of costs of a covered healthcare service you pay (20% for example) after you have paid your deductible.
Co-pays – A fixed amount ($20 for example) that you pay for a covered healthcare service after you have paid your deductible.
Deductible – The amount that you pay for covered healthcare services before your insurance plan starts to pay. With a $2,000 deductible, for example, you must pay the first $2,000 of covered services yourself.
Premium – The amount that you pay each month for your health insurance coverage, regardless of your use of services.
