Module 5: Healthcare Delivery

Overview

Healthcare delivery in the US is complex and multifaceted. This module focuses on the structure and payment systems that drive healthcare today. You will learn how the Affordable Care Act decreased the number of uninsured but continues to face challenges. The module also presents the structure and function of the public health system, which includes federal, state and local agencies. We continue our Curtis Bay case study in this module as well.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss the structure and function of the U.S. Public Health System.
  • Describe the financing of the healthcare delivery system in the U.S.
  • Compare health outcomes in the U.S. to health outcomes in other countries.
  • Contrast the needs of community members with services provided by the U.S. healthcare and public health system.
