NRSG 794 - Introduction to the Nursing Faculty Role

Module 5: Approvals and Accreditation

United States Department of Education

The United States Department of Education carries responsibility for education ranging from elementary through post-secondary. This agency is also responsible for many related programs, laws, statistics, research, and policies related to how education is designed and delivered within the country. It also houses many programs with student benefits such as student loans.

It is important to know that the Department of Education does not accredit institutions. Rather, it recognizes those organizations serving as accrediting bodies such as AACN’s Commission on Collegiate Education in Nursing (CCNE) and the NLN’s Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).

The Department of Education also collects data from many sources as well as making large amount of data information publicly available. You can see examples of some of the types of data available here.
