NURS 787 - Theoretical Foundations of Teaching and Learning
Module 3: Major Theories of Learning
Overview
There are many learning theories that explain how people learn. Within this module, you will gain knowledge of several theoretical perspectives relating to how people acquire knowledge. Because there are so many learning theorists, we'll focus on the following perspectives:
- Cognitivism - understanding how the brain processes and stores information.
- Behaviorism - seeking scientific, demonstrable explanations for behaviors.
- Constructivism- constructing new ideas based upon current/past knowledge.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this module, the learner will:
- Define various perspectives on learning.
- Describe the key characteristics of several key learning theories
- Apply theories to various educational environments
- Compare and contrast major theories of learning
