Nurs 736 - Technology Solutions for Knowledge Generation in Healthcare

Module 5: Managing Consumer Health Information

Overview

Consumers have new opportunities and challenges to gain knowledge about their own health and illnesses. With the increased volume of information resources, finding quality information is an issue. How does one evaluate the quality of resources in support of health care? What assurances are there that the information is trustworthy? The Internet has health education resources for consumers in addition to social interaction and networking online. Resources include the ability for patients to create their own electronic personal health records, use mobile devices to manage their care and have virtual, telehealth visits with their providers online. This module gives you the opportunity over two weeks to explore consumer-related health information resources and technological advances in health care.
