Nurs 467 - Public Health Nursing

Module 3: Community Assessments, Analysis & Diagnosis

Overview

Assessment is a public health nursing core function and is the first step of the nursing process. It is the basis for diagnosis, planning and evaluation. Community/public health nurses conduct assessments of communities in order to identify and prioritize health needs, as well as to plan and evaluate public health interventions. Community health assessment is a dynamic process that best occurs in partnership with the community. In this module, we introduce Curtis Bay, a neighborhood in south Baltimore, as a case study. Material related to the case study will be presented in a separate box so that you can find it quickly if needed.
