NDNP 812 – DNP Project Implementation
Module 3: Preparing for Dissemination
Implementation
You are expected to continue implementation of strategies and tactics that you previously presented in Module two for your project. It is also expected that you are monitoring your data results weekly and adjusting your implementation strategies and tactics in response.
- If your data is favorable, reinforce and fortify the current actions that you are taking for success
- If your data is unfavorable, it is your leadership responsibility to analyze the problems with the success of the project and adjust immediately
Data
Monitoring the system during an improvement initiative is essential to accurate interpretation of the data. A significant change in the data occurs when:
- There is an increasing or decreasing trend of six or more points, or
- A shift of six or more points on one side of the median, or
- Too few or too may runs (a run is successive points on one side of the median)
Look for any trends, runs, and shifts in the data on your run chart (Just with your practice data). If one occurs, you can say a change occurred – you have data variation but must understand why. To do this, you must refer to the process of care during the initiative and the context and answer three critical questions:
- At what point in the run chart was the change initiative introduced?
- Are you able to say the change initiative was applied consistently week to week?
- What other changes occurred in the system at the same time as the initiative that may explain why the system responded as it did, favorably or unfavorably?
Run Chart Template
Richard Scoville, PhD has developed an Excel based Run Chart Template. This template makes it easy to develop a Run Chart. The easy steps for developing a run chart using this template follow:
- Enter the dates that each process change was observed in the green Date/Observation column.
- Enter the percent achieved for each shift or day into the blue Value column.
- Enter the goal in the blue Goal column.
The Excel template will automatically develop a customized run chart.
