NDNP 810 DNP Project Identification

Module 4: DNP Project Proposal

Overview

All UMSON Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects are expected to translate evidence into practice for the purpose of improving the quality of healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, or system operations. During the early stages of a DNP Project, students engage in a systematic process of literature inquiry, project site assessment, information analysis, and planning to conceptualize a viable DNP Project. A viable project is a specific and achievable initiative that is evidence-based to address a verifiable issue or problem which can be completed during a limited timeframe.

The distinction must be made between Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects and research. Research generates new knowledge regarding the association between variables that can be generalized from a study population to a target population. Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects use the knowledge generated from research to make improvements at a single site, without generalization beyond the population at the project site.
In this web conferencing session, students will present their DNP Scholarly Project proposal as an improvement imitative, distinct from research.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Distinguish the difference between a research study and a DNP Scholarly Project
  • Compose a viable DNP Project Proposal for implementation at an identified project site with a population of interest in accordance with Squire Guidelines.
  • Utilize the information from the REDCap video to pre-plan for data collection.
