Module 11: Theory for Evidence-Based Practice

Overview

Middle Range Theory should be applicable to evidence-based practice. Advanced Nurse Practitioners should be not only a user of theory in practice, but also developers and testers of theory. This online module focuses on the confirmation and validation of theory in practice settings to substantiate or refute current evidence and provide direction for modification of evidence on which practice can be based.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Differentiate the use of descriptive, explanatory and predictive theories in addressing a practice problem.
  • Apply the steps of evidence-based practice to the process of translating theory into practical actions.
