Online Course
NDNP 804 - Theory for Evidence-Based Practice
Module 1: Introduction to Philosophy of Science in Nursing
Overview
When evaluating scientific evidence, it is important to understand how the scientists’ world view may have impacted their work. Philosophy is a search for the nature of the universe and the meaning of human experience. The ontology of the philosophy is the world view from a particular philosophic view. Epistemology is the study of knowing or studying what knowledge is and how it is possible. In this web conferencing session we will begin this module with introductions of students and faculty, an overview of the course, and a review of schedules, assignments, grading criteria, and general expectations of students and faculty. We will then proceed to the topic of philosophy of science, and dialogue regarding how your own philosophy of science may influence your scholarly work.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Compare and contrast competing philosophical view points about the nature of scientific knowledge.
