By defining, describing, and analyzing concepts, we can develop a better understanding of how events and experiences important to nursing practice are related to other concepts. Ultimately, this understanding can be used to design and implement evidence-based interventions and programs.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • Differentiate between a concept and a phenomenon.
  • Describe how concepts are important to nursing knowledge development and practice.
  • Evaluate specific concepts for their relevancy to nursing practice and knowledge development.

  • Rawlett, K. (2014). Journey from self-efficacy to empowerment. Health Care, 2, 1-9.
